Why it matters to a buyer
Organic search remains a channel where a business does not pay per click, so work done once can keep producing visits for years. It is also where AI answer engines retrieve much of what they cite, which makes SEO the base that GEO builds on. For a buyer the practical questions are what the work includes, how long it takes to show and how it is reported, since the label alone covers everything from a one-off audit to a full content programme.
How it is measured or applied
SEO is applied in three layers. The technical layer makes sure pages can be crawled, rendered, indexed and loaded quickly. The content layer builds pages that match what people search for and answer it better than the pages already ranking. The authority layer earns links and mentions from relevant sites. Progress is measured in Google Search Console and analytics: impressions, clicks and average position for the target queries, then the enquiries or sales those visits produce. Most sites see technical fixes register within weeks and new rankings over several months.
