People Also Ask (PAA)

People Also Ask is a Google search results feature showing an expandable list of related questions, each revealing a short answer pulled from a specific web page when clicked. It commonly appears on informational searches and each expansion can trigger further, newly generated related questions.

Also called: PAA, PAA box

Why it matters to a buyer

People Also Ask boxes are a genuinely useful, free source of real questions buyers ask around a topic, since each box reflects questions Google's own systems judged relevant enough to surface, and a page appearing inside one gets visibility even without holding the top organic position. For a buyer, PAA questions are also a preview of the kind of sub-questions AI answer engines break a topic into, so content written to answer them well tends to serve both purposes at once.

How it is measured or applied

Appearing in a PAA box requires a page to hold a concise, direct answer to the specific question, usually near the top of a clearly structured section with a matching heading, similar to what earns a featured snippet. Questions are researched by searching a target query and recording every PAA question that appears, including the further questions each expansion reveals, then building those directly into a page's headings and answers. Presence is tracked with a SERP feature tracking tool or by periodically searching target queries manually and recording which questions and answers appear.
