Why it matters to a buyer
A rising organic traffic total on its own does not prove SEO is working for the business, since it can be driven entirely by branded search from existing awareness, or by informational queries that never convert, while the specific commercial pages a business actually needs to rank are flat. A buyer should ask for organic traffic broken down by branded versus non-branded, and by page, rather than accepting one headline growth number as proof of progress.
How it is measured or applied
Organic traffic is tracked in GA4's traffic acquisition report, which classifies sessions by channel using UTM parameters and referrer data, and cross-checked against Search Console's own click totals for Google specifically, since the two tools can show different numbers due to different tracking methods and definitions. It is reported segmented by branded versus non-branded, by landing page, and alongside conversion data, so growth in raw sessions is always read next to whether that traffic is reaching the pages, and converting at the rate, the business actually needs.
