Knowledge panel

A knowledge panel is the information box, usually on the right side of Google's desktop search results, that summarises facts about a recognised entity, such as a company, person or place, pulled from the Knowledge Graph, Google Business Profile and other verified or widely corroborated sources.

Also called: knowledge card

Why it matters to a buyer

A knowledge panel is a strong external signal that Google recognises a business as a distinct, established entity rather than just a set of ranking pages, and it is also a visible marker of legitimacy to a searcher, showing up alongside branded search results with logo, description and links Google trusts. For a buyer, the absence of one on a branded search is a useful, honest indicator that entity signals, consistent facts across the web, third-party corroboration, are still thin and worth investing in.

How it is measured or applied

Panels are generated automatically once Google has enough confidence in an entity, typically built from Google Business Profile data, Wikipedia or Wikidata, and other consistent, independent sources describing the same facts about the business. A business can claim an eligible panel through Google's verification flow and suggest edits to specific facts, but cannot request one be created from nothing. It is checked by searching the exact brand name and watching whether a panel appears, and progress is built indirectly, through consistent entity signals across owned and third-party profiles, rather than through any direct application.
