Why it matters to a buyer
Being understood as a clear, distinct entity, rather than just a set of keyword-matching pages, is part of what lets a search engine or an AI model connect a business's name confidently to what it does, where it operates, and who its people are, which in turn affects whether a knowledge panel appears or whether an assistant describes the brand accurately. A buyer with an ambiguous name, one that overlaps with another company or a common word, has a real, ongoing disambiguation problem worth actively managing.
How it is measured or applied
Entity clarity is built by using consistent naming and facts everywhere a business appears, its own site, its Google Business Profile, LinkedIn, Crunchbase and other directories, and by adding Organization structured data with sameAs links tying those profiles together as one entity. A Wikidata item can reinforce this once a business has enough independent coverage to support one, since creating one too early, before any third party has written about the business, does not hold up as a genuine reference. It is checked by searching the brand name and seeing whether a knowledge panel appears, and by testing whether AI assistants describe the business consistently.
