Why it matters to a buyer
For any business that serves customers in a place, the profile is often seen more than the website: it answers the hours, directions and phone questions directly and shows reviews beside competitors'. AI assistants that answer local questions also draw on listings and reviews. For a buyer, a neglected profile with the wrong primary category or unanswered reviews can hold back local visibility no matter how good the website is.
How it is measured or applied
Google says local ranking depends mainly on relevance, distance and prominence. Applying that means choosing the most accurate primary category, completing every field, keeping hours and contact details correct, adding real photos, and asking customers for reviews and replying to them. The business name, address and phone number should match the website and other directories. Performance is measured in the profile's own insights, which show searches, views, calls, direction requests and website clicks, alongside a local rank tracker that checks map positions from several points in the area.
