Landing page

A landing page is a standalone page a visitor arrives at from a specific source, such as an ad, an email or a search result, built around a single, focused goal rather than general site navigation. Unlike a homepage, it typically has one message and one primary call to action.

Also called: landing page

Why it matters to a buyer

Sending paid traffic to a general homepage, instead of a landing page built to match the specific offer and message the visitor clicked on, is one of the most common and most expensive mistakes in a paid acquisition program, since the homepage has to serve every visitor's intent at once and matches almost none of them as well as a focused page could. For a buyer running any paid campaign, a dedicated landing page per major offer is usually worth the extra build effort.

How it is measured or applied

A landing page is built to match the exact message and expectation set by the traffic source that sent the visitor there, states the outcome and mechanism clearly above the fold, backs the claim with visible proof, and offers one primary call to action repeated at each natural decision point rather than competing links to other parts of the site. It is measured against its single defined goal, tracked per traffic source, and improved through A/B testing on pages with enough traffic, or through heatmaps and direct user feedback where traffic is thinner.
