GEO
Perplexity optimization
Perplexity answers from its own index and also crawls pages live while it writes. It cites more sources per answer than any other engine and shows them as numbered links, so a citation there can send real traffic. Getting one needs open crawlers, fresh pages and third-party presence.

Perplexity behaves less like a chatbot and more like a research assistant with its footnotes showing. It gathers a large set of sources, writes a short answer, and numbers every claim back to a page. That makes it the engine where a citation is most visible and most clickable. This page covers the part of our GEO services aimed at it.
How does Perplexity build an answer?
By reading widely, then compressing.
It searches its own index and also crawls pages live as it answers, so a page published this morning can appear in this afternoon's answer. It pulls far more sources per answer than the other engines, then writes two or three paragraphs with a numbered citation on almost every sentence.
Two consequences follow. First, the bar for inclusion is lower than in engines that cite three sources, so a well-made page has a real chance even without a famous domain behind it. Second, being cited once is not the goal. Being cited for the questions your buyers actually ask, repeatedly, is.
Which crawlers have to be open?
Two, and both matter.
PerplexityBot builds the index. Perplexity-User fetches a page live when a question points at it. Blocking either one takes you out of the engine rather than out of a feature. As with the other engines, the block is usually a security preset nobody connected to marketing, so we test with a live fetch rather than reading the robots file and hoping.
| What matters | How Perplexity works |
|---|---|
| Where the answer comes from | Its own index, plus a live crawl of pages while the answer is being written |
| Crawlers to allow | PerplexityBot for the index, Perplexity-User for live fetches |
| What it tends to cite | Community threads, video, professional profiles and review sites, and more sources per answer than any other engine |
None of the engines share an index or a crawler, so opening one changes nothing for the rest. The full six-engine comparison sits on the GEO services page.
Is Reddit the way in?
It is the most common advice about Perplexity and the least useful for a business audience.
Community threads are a large share of Perplexity's citations across all question types. For questions about which company or product to buy, they almost vanish.
3%
So we do not send clients to post in forums. The same hours go into review platform profiles, professional company profiles and getting onto comparison lists other people publish, which is where the vendor citations actually come from.
What do we change on your pages?
We write for extraction and we date everything.
Each target page opens with a two or three sentence answer under the heading. Headings become the smaller questions a buyer asks. Sections stay short enough to lift whole. Numbers carry a named source. One table per page, because tables are quoted far more often than paragraphs.
Then freshness. Perplexity crawls live and leans on pages that show when they were last checked, so we put a visible last-reviewed date on the pages that matter and actually re-check them on a schedule. Changing a date without changing the page is the kind of thing that works for one quarter and then does not.
Why does rendering matter so much here?
Because a live crawl does not wait for your JavaScript.
If the main text of your page is painted by a script after load, a fetcher can receive an almost empty document. It will not say so. It will simply cite somebody else. We check what each crawler actually receives, and where the text is missing we move it into the server-rendered HTML. That is ordinary technical SEO work and it is usually the largest single change on a modern site.
What does the work look like?
Baseline
Run your agreed prompt set in Perplexity and record whether you were named, whether you were linked, and every source it used instead.
Open access
Live-fetch as PerplexityBot and Perplexity-User, fix the rules or firewall presets that block them, then fetch again to confirm.
Make pages liftable
Answer at the top, buyer questions as headings, one table, sourced numbers, a real last-reviewed date, and the text present in the raw HTML.
Build presence
Complete the review and company profiles Perplexity leans on, run an honest review process, and pitch inclusion in comparison lists written by other people.
Re-run weekly
The same prompts, the same log: named, linked or absent, with the competing sources listed so the next task is obvious.
How do we measure it?
By tracking a fixed prompt set and by watching the referrals.
Perplexity is the engine where analytics help most, because its citations are clickable. We tag the traffic, watch which pages receive it, and compare it against the prompt log. When a page starts getting cited, we usually see it in both places within the same week.
The report names the sources that beat you. That is the part that decides next week's work. Related engine pages sit at Claude optimization and Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, and if you want to see how we run this for a team in one of our regional markets, our market page walks through the same process.
Who gets the most out of Perplexity work?
Companies whose buyers research hard before they talk to anyone.
Perplexity's audience skews toward people comparing options in detail, and its answers are built for that: many sources, visible citations, and a follow-up question waiting underneath. If your product is bought after a period of reading, a citation here reaches someone at the exact moment they are building a shortlist.
It matters less if your category is bought on impulse, or if your buyers arrive through a sales team rather than through research. In those cases we still open the crawlers, because that costs almost nothing, and we put the writing and outreach budget elsewhere. Choosing which engines to fund is part of the plan rather than a default, and the audit is what settles it.
What does not help here?
Publishing an llms.txt file. No answer engine uses it to decide citations, Google said in June 2026 that it has no effect, and a study of 137,000 domains found 97 percent of them were never requested.
Adding FAQ markup to chase a rich result. Google retired FAQPage rich results in May 2026. We keep the markup where it mirrors visible text and we keep the visible questions, because those always did the work.
Posting in forums for vendor questions, buying a visibility score, and publishing a near-identical page for each engine. The engines read different indexes, but they all read badly written pages the same way.

Plans are flat monthly retainers with starting prices on the pricing page. They run month to month, and you can stop at the end of any month.
أسئلة تتكرر علينا
How is Perplexity different from ChatGPT?
Perplexity runs its own index and also fetches pages live while it answers, and it cites far more sources per answer. It also shows those sources as numbered links people click, so a citation there behaves more like a search result than a mention.
Which crawlers does Perplexity use?
PerplexityBot builds its index and Perplexity-User fetches a page live when a user's question points at it. Both need to be allowed. Blocking either one takes you out of the engine, not just out of one feature.
Does Perplexity send real traffic?
More than most engines, because its citations sit next to the answer as numbered links rather than being folded into the text. Volumes are still small next to search, so we treat it as qualified traffic rather than a channel that replaces anything.
Do we need to be active on Reddit?
Community threads are a large share of Perplexity citations overall and close to nothing when someone asks which company to hire. For a business audience, review platforms, professional profiles and comparison lists are the better use of the same effort.
How fresh do our pages need to be?
Fresher than for other engines, because Perplexity crawls live and prefers pages that carry a real date. We put a visible last-reviewed date on the pages we want cited and re-check them on a schedule rather than editing a date field.
How long does this usually take?
Crawler fixes can change what Perplexity sees within days, since it re-fetches as questions come in. Page work usually surfaces over four to eight weeks. Third-party presence usually takes two to four months.
Can you guarantee a citation?
No. The sources change between runs of the same question. We commit to the work and report weekly on the prompt set we agreed, including the sources that appeared instead of you.
Is this priced separately from the other engines?
It is part of one flat monthly retainer, with starting prices on the pricing page. Most of the access work serves every engine at once, so a plan covering several engines costs less than several separate plans.
